The tackle you take on your carp fishing holiday probably won't be much different from the tackle you use back in the UK if you are fishing a lake of say up to 20 acres or so a rod of 2.5 - 3lb TC and a bait runner type reel loaded with 12-15lb mono will be sufficient for most situations.

Alternatively if you are intending fishing a large reservoir of a big river you may want to think about taking a rod of 3lb TC+ to achieve the longer ranges coupled with a big pit style reel capable of holding a large amount of mono or braid. Also a boat and a fish finder will be invaluable for locating hotspots, baiting up and landing fish if you wish to fish at distances beyond casting range.

Terminal tackle will be pretty much the same as your UK fishing but you may want to go up a size with your hooks or use stronger leaders in certain circumstances say fishing over sharp gravel bars or near snags. If you are fishing at range or on a particularly snaggy water then remember to take plenty of heavy leads as the safest way to fish will be using a lead breakaway system to avoid snagging up and losing fish.

Many of the commercial carp fishing holiday venues offer tackle hire, and if are intending to fly to your venue this will obviously be the way to go.

If your venue contains particularly large carp be sure to take an unhooking mat and a weigh sling that are up to the job, utmost care must be taken with large carp, keep the weighing equipment wet and don't sack the fish for long periods especially if the conditions are hot.

Sometimes the weather can be very variable on the continent so it would be advisable to take a bivvy of rigid construction such as one of the very good pram hood style bivvies on the market, this will make your carp fishing holiday much more comfortable and enjoyable.

Be prepared and try to cover all situations as you are likely to be a long way from any tackle shops.
