Spain and particularly the River Ebro has been a favourite carp fishing holiday venue for many years now as well as the amazing catfishing. The Ebro and its tributaries are stuffed with carp to specimen size with common carp of 20lb being the average. The carp in the river systems are extremely hard fighting and you'll be sure a of good fight from even modest size carp.

There are many commercial guided tours on offer for the angler, all can supply the tackle, bait, accommodation, transfers and boats etc. the area around Mequinenza in North East Spain is particularly famous for large captures of carp and catfish.

The catfish have done very well on the Ebro with the abundance of food and they now grow to huge sizes of 200lb +. Tactics for catfishing include live baiting with small carp or pellet fishing, heavy gear is required including uptide rods, multipliers and heavy braid to keep these beasts under control... the buzz when one of these monsters rip off with the bait can unreal.

Carp fishing on the Ebro is a similar affair to fishing in the UK, standard tackle is needed and the carp respond well to most baits including boilies, pellets and maize. if a shoal is located keep the bait going in to hold them in the area or they will soon move off in search for more food being nomadic in their nature.

Carp fishing has now taken off in the canary islands with lake Chira in Grand Canaria being the most popular.

If you fancy a bit of sun and some carp fishing thrown in Spain certainly fits the bill.
